Deep Tissue Massage

What is A Deep Tissue Massage? Book Deep Tissue Massages in Springfield, Missouri

Deep tissue massage involves applying very firm pressure to any knotted muscles or aching areas of the body. Rather than doing this technique all over the body, a deep tissue massage is done in specific areas for the best results. Deep tissue massage uses pressure to work past the first layer of muscle tissue to relieve more chronic types of pain and increase joint mobility. Deep tissue massage has a “good hurt” sensation and can relieve chronic pain and increase joint mobility.

We offer 30-minute, 60-minute, and 90-minute treatments.

How Does Deep Tissue Massage Work?

When you live with chronic muscle tension or get injured, adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue also often called scar tissue) can develop in your connective tissue including your muscles, tendons and ligaments, and fascia. Adhesions can block circulation, cause pain or numbness, and limit movement. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore natural movement. To do this, our massage therapists use advanced massage techniques including deep direct pressure and friction applied across the grain of the muscles. Learn more about how to prepare for your deep tissue massage.

The Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is ideal for people with physically demanding jobs, athletes, or others with an active lifestyle. Deep tissue massage therapy can help those with headaches, back pain, joint pain, accident recovery, sports injuries, trigger point referral pain, and fibromyalgia, and may benefit those with physically demanding jobs or extra muscle tension.

  • Promotes healing and recovery from injury
  • Releases muscle tension
  • Breaks down scar tissue and adhesions

Will Deep Tissue Massage Hurt?

At certain points during the deep tissue massage, you may experience some discomfort. You may be asked to breathe deeply as we work on certain tense areas. It is important to communicate with your massage therapist whenever things hurt. We never want you to let any soreness or pain go outside your comfort range. Many people hold a misconception that more is always better and that there is no gain without pain, but that is not true of massage pressure. It is also important to drink plenty of water before and after your massage to flush the metabolic waste from the tissues and prevent soreness.

While people tend to think this type of massage will be relaxing, deep tissue massage will often make you feel very sore for the days following your appointment. It’s common to feel a little sore the days after a deep tissue massage, but it is important to communicate with your therapist about the massage pressure. This massage is not incredibly painful, however, it may be uncomfortable to some as the muscles are worked on. We promise that in the end, it’s worth it! It is normal to be sore for a day or so after a deep tissue massage, but if you are sore for three days or more please tell your therapist so they can adjust their pressure in future sessions.

How Is Deep Tissue Massage Different From Other Massages?

Swedish massage is usually what people think of when they imagine a massage – muscles relaxing, calming motions, and barely any soreness the next day. This can be quite different from deep tissue massages, where more rigorous work is performed on your muscles and fascia to break up painful knots or muscle tightness.

For deep tissue massages, it’s always important to communicate with your massage therapist about any painful areas on your body. Don’t hesitate to speak up if the pressure is too much! Alternatively, you should also say something if you want more intense pressure. Each person is different in their tolerance level, and supplying your massage therapist with this feedback can help deliver the best deep tissue massage for you.

Is A Relaxation Massage Right For Me?

Anyone needing to relax the body and mind can benefit from this type of massage. Your therapist uses a variety of techniques specifically designed to help you relax. Swedish/Relaxation massage is gentle and tailored to promote relaxation and increase circulation and stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system.

Benefits of Relaxing Massages

Massage therapy is now more widely accepted in the medical community than ever before. While it’s known that massage helps treat back pain, relaxation massages can be just as beneficial.

You don’t have to earn relaxation, the benefits of a relaxing massage are both physical, emotional, and psychological. Research shows that massage therapy has several potential health benefits, including:

Improve blood flow

Greater circulation brings needed nutrition to muscles and tissues. This aids in the recovery of muscle soreness from physical activity or soft tissue injury (such as muscle strain).

Decrease muscle tension

Muscle relaxation can improve flexibility, reduce pain caused by tight muscles, and even improve sleep.

Increase endorphin levels

Endorphins, otherwise known as the “feel good” chemicals in the brain, are mood enhancers that can ease depression and anxiety, reducing pain and speeding recovery. This is particularly important for those suffering from chronic back or neck problems.

What to Expect During A Thai Massage

Unlike a Swedish or deep-tissue massage that takes place on a table, Thai massage occurs on a padded floor mat. During Thai massage, you lie on a floor mat as your practitioner moves around and above you to access a wider range of angles over each part of the body. Your practitioner will slowly move your body through yoga-like positions using the weight and pressure of their own body to assist you. The session may also include rhythmic pressing and stretching of your entire body. During the massage, you will be pulled, stretched, and rocked while the therapist uses many parts of their body including their thumbs, elbows, and knees. This could include gently pulling fingers, toes, and ears, cracking knuckles, or carefully walking on the recipient’s back. If your muscles are sore or tense, you may feel some discomfort. If you experience any level of discomfort, let your therapist know to reduce pressure and stretching.

During a Thai massage, you will keep your clothing on. Thai massage may be an appropriate option if you are uncomfortable with being only partially dressed or nude for other types of massage. It is ideal to wear loose-fitting, clean, and comfortable clothing (along the lines of active athletic wear).

No massage oil or cream is applied. This therapy is offered for 30, 60, and 90 minutes.

What to Expect After A Thai Massage

Thai massage is more rigorous than other forms of massage, and you may walk away from your massage session feeling more energized. After a Thai massage, you can expect to have decreased stress levels and increased flexibility in your arms, legs, and back. Thai massage is a low-impact practice, and is great for all ages, including those pregnant or are recovering from surgery/injury.

You may notice soreness or tenderness after a Thai massage; this is normal, since this practice stimulates blood flow and delivers nutrients to your muscles while eliminating toxins. After a Thai massage, you may notice delayed soreness due to muscle stimulation.

Remember, after any type of massage, you will need to drink plenty of water. Your muscle tissue will not be as pliable if you are dehydrated, and will cause that day-after tenderness. Drinking plenty of water will also help flush out the waste after your massage. Avoiding caffeine and alcohol is a good idea as they are dehydrating.

What Is Microneedling and Why Do I Need it?

Also called collagen induction therapy, dermarolling, or skin needling, microneedling is a form of dermal needling that involves puncturing the top layer of skin with tiny needles. It has been used in medicine for decades, and it’s quickly becoming popular as an anti-aging treatment. The medical name for this procedure is percutaneous collagen induction therapy (PCIT). The goal of the treatment is to create tiny channels in your skin that can help stimulate collagen production and improve the overall appearance.

What Are The Benefits Of Microneedling?

Microneedling promotes collagen formation, which allows the skin to remain tighter and thicker as we age. The benefits of microneedling include minimized pore size, improve skin quality, and smoother texture by reducing the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks, and fine lines. Normally, our skin only absorbs about 4% of a product’s ingredients, but after using a dermaroller, our skin will absorb up to 70%!  Any condition you’re concerned with – wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, scars – will improve that much faster because the ingredients in your skincare are actually able to get to work.
